Hello, I’m Katrina and I hope you find the following information about my counselling practice and experience useful when choosing the right practitioner for your needs:
I have been a qualified counsellor for over 20 years, after gaining a BSC Honours Degree in Behavioural Sciences, followed by Post Graduate Diplomas in Integrative Therapy; Cognitive Behavioural Therapy and Consultative Supervision at the University of South Wales (Newport.) I have worked privately; for the NHS; in the mental health field; and was senior counsellor for a drug and alcohol agency for 17 years, so have experience in a wide range of often complex client issues, as well as supervising both qualified and trainee counsellors and psychotherapists.
I provide counselling on a one to one basis at a place most convenient for you, this could be at my office or online (telephone, Skype or Zoom), the main focus is for you to be comfortable. BCS Mental Health Service is an ethical organisation with the goal of providing accessible face to face counselling and psychotherapy. I have daytime and evening appointments available and am happy to discuss arranging convenient appointment times with you.
I have a wide knowledge and experience in the theory and practice of several therapeutic approaches, including, person-centred, psychodynamic, CBT, brief solution focused therapies, motivational interviewing and mindfulness. I have had regular external counselling/clinical supervision throughout my career and fully understand the importance of maintaining this practice to safeguard myself as well as my clients. Supervision enables us to recognise and be confident of our competency levels and safely explore any limitations and understand when it is necessary to refer clients to other more suitable organisations for more specialist interventions.
I greatly enjoy working with individuals through often complex issues, working together to help them recognise, identify and achieve their goals. Exploring your options via counselling in a safe environment can enable you to make positive therapeutic changes, improve your overall well-being and therefore enhance your quality of life.
